The AI Visibility Score

Do AI assistants recommend your business?

A single number, from 0 to 100, for how visible your business is when a customer asks an AI assistant for a recommendation — and whether the assistant gets its facts about you right. It works the same way for a dental practice, a law firm, a med spa, or a private bank.

What the score answers

Four questions you cannot answer by searching for yourself

01

When your customers ask an AI assistant for a recommendation, does it name you?

02

Are you ahead of or behind the competitors you actually lose business to?

03

Is what AI says about you — your prices, your people, your credentials — correct and current?

04

Which of the questions your buyers ask are you missing entirely?

How to read it

0–100, and a plain letter grade

A+ / A80 and upAI reliably recommends you, with the facts right. You are the safe answer.
Bthe 70sYou show up often and accurately, but the category leaders still edge you out.
Cmid-50s to 60sYou appear sometimes. Prospects are just as likely to hear a competitor’s name.
Dmid-30s to mid-50sYou are the exception, not the rule — and the details are often stale.
Fbelow the mid-30sYou are effectively invisible. Buyers are being sent elsewhere by default.

The grade is derived from the number — it is never set on its own.

What goes into it

Five things, in plain terms

Each is measured the same way for you and for your competitors, so the comparison is fair.

01

How often AI names you

Across a set of real questions your buyers ask, how many answers mention your business at all.

02

How you compare to competitors

When you do appear, how much of the answer is you versus the rival businesses named alongside you.

03

Whether AI gets its facts right

A citation that repeats an old price, a discontinued service, or a team member who has left is a liability, not a win — so accuracy is weighed as a trust signal, not a bonus.

04

Whether you are listed where AI looks

Assistants lean on a known set of directories and reference sources — the mix differs by industry. Being absent or out of date there caps how often you can be recommended.

05

Whether your own site is machine-readable

If your pages hide their content behind scripts, block AI crawlers, or omit basic structure, an assistant cannot use them — no matter how good they look to a person.

How much each one counts toward the total is fixed and applied identically to every business we score.

Six engines, never blended

We check all six, and keep them separate

Each engine behaves differently — how quickly it re-indexes, which sources it trusts, how it phrases an answer. Averaging them into one blurred figure would hide exactly the signal that tells you where to act.

ChatGPTPerplexityGeminiAnthropic ClaudeGoogle AI OverviewsMicrosoft Copilot

How much each engine counts can be tuned per business. Microsoft Copilot, for instance, is weighted up for anyone selling to companies: it ships inside the software their buyers already use, and is often the only assistant reachable from a work desktop.

We only score what we measured. A citation observed in an answer is a fact. A number for how much demand a question carries is an estimate — shown as a range, with the assumption stated, never as a hard figure. In a regulated field that line is non-negotiable; everywhere else it is still the difference between a tool you can trust and one you cannot.

How to use it

Three steps, then repeat

01

Read the number and the gap

Your score, your grade, and how far behind the leader you are. One glance tells you whether this is a fire drill or a tune-up.

02

Work the quick wins

The highest-demand questions you are not cited for, ranked. These are where a fix earns the most, soonest.

03

Re-check and watch it move

Engines re-index on the order of weeks. Re-run the same questions every few weeks and the score shows whether the work landed.

What it isn’t

Not an SEO score. Ranking on Google and being recommended by an AI assistant are different games, measured differently.

Not a guess dressed up as data. Where a number is measured, we say so. Where it is an estimate, it is shown as a range with the assumption stated.

Not a vanity metric. It moves for concrete reasons — a corrected fact, a new listing, a readable page — and every point maps back to one.
